Peer Lesson 7: Clay

*I didn't finish painting it yet!

Clay Monsters

Description: For this activity, we used clay to create monsters. We used air dry clay to create, water to make the clay easier to work with, carving tools to attach any additions or make subtractions, and then we painted our finished project. I created a watermelon monster by making a 'bowl' out of a ball of clay. Then, we made hatching marks to attach eyes, teeth, arms, and legs. I also used the carving tool to add some watermelon seeds inside my monsters mouth. For painting, I just painted it like a basic watermelon, greens on the outside, and a pink/red on the inside, with black and white details.

Extension Activity: I think a fun extension for this activity would be to do a story time on monsters before, or have some kid-appropriate monster movie during Halloween time. The students could do a directed drawing where they follow along on how to draw something with all of the details being directed and demonstrated too, this could give students ideas for their monsters.
